North Belfast Harriers Junior Report 7th – 13th April 2025

The beginning of April brought a weather phenomenon that could only happen in Belfast. Whilst everyone enjoyed the warm sunshine in the evenings, they woke the following morning to frozen windscreens and were able to use their sun burnt faces to defrost it. Sure where else would you get it!!!

As we progress further into April, temperatures and weather conditions returned to normal and our Juniors had Park Runs and the Fab 5 competition to compete in.

Fab 5 – Mary Peters Track

Thursday evening saw the return of the Fab 5 event hosted by Lagan Valley AC at the Mary Peters Track in south Belfast. Although it was a chilly evening an unprecedented crowd of almost 600 athletes descended on the track to flex their skills in their respective age categories and disciplines.

Our junior stags showed up in force, ready to put their training to the test. So, it was on with the spikes and let the track seasons begin.

Each age category had two different track races with the additional option of competing in some field events.

Special mention goes out to our medal winners who all dug deep and came out victorious.

Congratulations to Sophia Doris who was the first medal winner of the night finishing in 2nd place in the Under 12 girls 600m in a fantastic time of 2:04.21.

The second medal of the night went to Tanoj Yakkanti finishing in silver medal position in the Under 14 boys 100m with an amazing time of 13:08. That boy will never miss the bus!!

The next podium place went to Cillian McLoughlin finishing in 2nd place in the Under 14 boys 1500m race with a super time of 4:52.40.

Thomas Coy took a well deserved Bronze medal in the Under 16 boys 1500m with an eye watering time of 4:31.41.

No stranger to podium finishes was Cassie Curran who finished in 2nd place in the Girls Under 16 1500m race with a blistering time of 4:49.04. Well done.

And the final podium finish of the day went to Emily McRitchie who finished in bronze position in the girls 1500m in a super time of 5:03.83

Park Run

Saturday morning saw 11 of our junior stags take to their local parks and complete the 5km park run. Special mention this week goes to Tom McLoughlin who finished in 8th position with a whopping time, and new PB of 19:31 and to Annie Cullen who also achieved a new PB with a super time of 28:33. Well done to both of you.

Junior Park Run

Sunday morning saw warm, glorious sunshine make an appearance yet again, enticing 16 junior stags to attend two different junior park runs. The Waterworks had the largest continent with 14 junior stags attending. Special mention to Tom McLoughlin, Thomas Weiniger, Miles McKinney, Eva Mooney and Penny Dickson who all achieve a PB on the day. Congratulations to Tanoj Yakkanti who also achieved a PB at Victoria Junior park Run.
