North Belfast Harriers Junior  Report 13th – 20th April 2025

We are publishing a little early this week due to the Easter Hols so Junior Parkrun results are yet to come in and will be added when we can…

Following on from a hectic week of races with the commencement of the Fab 5 Series last week (thoughts and prayers with run reporter Martin for that one!) we have had a quiet 7 days due to the Easter break – but all of our Juniors have continued to do eggceedingly well with consistent training and have earned themselves eggstra Easter Eggs this year – ok, ok, no more bad egg jokes!

So we just have the usual Saturday Parkrun events to report on so far this week and a reminder about up and coming events to which the Juniors can look forward.

Waterworks Parkrun Results

It was an unseasonally cold and wet morning on Saturday but that didn’t deter a dozen or so of the juniors getting up and at it at the Waterworks. Cormac Leheny continued his flying form coming in as first finisher and it was lovely to see Niamh, Niall and Eric McAuley all running in a full  sibling turn out.  A special congratulations to Ciara McCloy who ran her first Parkrun in an impressive sub 30 minute time – hopefully you enjoyed it Ciara and you’ll be keen to do a few more! Full results are set out below with only a couple of pics as most of you were obviously going so fast that the photographer missed most of you!!

Paisley Park Parkrun

The newer Paisley Park venue is proving popular too with club members and we had 2 juniors, Neve and Olivia (who was also making her Parkrun debut) both making it round the course in great times – well done girls and keep up the good work!

Future Events and Training News

Hopefully all the Juniors who put aside their Eggs and treats and made it out to the special Easter Sunday Junior Parkruns found that their chocolatey breakfast provided good fuel for their performances. Results to be reported on when we can!

We would encourage as many Juniors as possible to participate in the Lagan Valley Athletics Club Fab 5 Series of Track and Field Meetings which continue to take place over Thursday evenings in April and May at the Mary Peter’s Track.   Thursday’s event is already sold out and places are hard to come by for this highly popular series so you need to be quick out of the blocks when they are released.   There are categories for U10, U12, U14, U16 and Under 18s.  We will try and post in to the WhatsApp group when future events are released  https://laganvalleyac.co.uk/lvac-fab-5/

We are delighted to see your commitment to the Laganside Kids Mile on Sunday 7th September 2025 – thanks to you all that event is now completely sold out so well done everyone who managed to sign up – this will be a real celebration of our Junior Athletes at the Club’s own show case event in September and one that we are all very much looking forward to.

Finally, we are really excited to hear how Thomas Coy, Cassie Curran and Lorcan McCann get on at the London Mini Marathon event next Saturday.  Our 3 juniors have been selected to participate in this major competition as a result of their performances in the Ulster Schools Cross Country and we can’t wait to hear how you get on!

That’s all for this week – a nice short report for once! Have a lovely Easter break – and just a reminder that there is no track training this week except for the older juniors who are meeting at the Castle gates for ongoing sessions.
