North Belfast Harriers Junior Report 29th June – 5th July 2026

Another quiet week for our junior stags with only park run action to report on.  This weekend saw North Belfast Harriers juniors competing across Waterworks, Pomeroy Forest and Waterworks Junior park run with strong performances throughout, a number of personal bests and some excellent finishing positions for our young athletes.

Five NBH juniors were in action at the Waterworks on Saturday morning, taking on the ever-popular local 5km course.

First home for the club was Oisin Caldwell, who continued his excellent recent form by finishing 37th overall in a superb 23:01. Oisin has been one of the club’s most active and successful junior park runners and once again showed his quality by leading the NBH contingent across the line.

Next across the line was Cohen Turley, who finished 76th overall in 24:52. Cohen has shown significant improvement in recent years, steadily lowering his 5km times through consistent participation and hard work and this was another strong effort from the young athlete.

Close behind was Senan McConnell, who completed the course in 26:28. Senan has consistently demonstrated determination and resilience throughout his parkrun journey and continues to represent the club strongly whenever he races.

The sole junior female representative for NBH at Waterworks was Fóla O’Kane, who finished strongly in 27:39. Fóla has shown excellent progression over the past couple of seasons and continues to improve her performances over the 5km distance.

Completing the NBH team was Cillian Coy, who finished 181st overall in 30:44. Despite still competing in the JM10 age category, Cillian continues to gain valuable experience over the 5km distance and deserves great credit for taking on the challenge.

The standout 5km performance of the weekend came from Lois Usher at Pomeroy Forest.

Lois produced an outstanding run to finish 3rd overall in a fantastic time of 21:42. Even more impressively, she was the first female finisher on the day and achieved the result on her first appearance at the event. Lois continues to demonstrate the consistency and competitiveness that have made her one of the club’s leading junior athletes.

Congratulations Lois on a superb run and an excellent result.

Message from the Coaches

Training has now finished for the summer break and will return on Tuesday 4th August 2026 at the usual time.

We highly recommend that all our young athletes take a couple of weeks break from running. When they start back it should just be relaxed running, ideally with friends, and no sessions.

It would be good if they started back into their drills.

When they start back they should slowly and sensibly build up the time they spend out running.

However…….

Alan and Seamus will be putting on an additional training session at Mallusk on Tuesday night at 6:00 (back carpark) for those racing the Irish Championships T&F this weekend.

For any of our junior athletes (those that train at 6:15) that want to come along, do the warm up and down, help pace the reps for those racing, see their friends and enjoy a bit of NBH craic are more than welcome to come along.

Enjoy the summer holidays everyone.
