North Belfast Harriers Junior Report: 4th-11th October 2026

With autumn now firmly established, conditions were ideal for getting in some cross country training for the up-and-coming events that should be in most of our Juniors’ calendars by now.  It was great to see so many of our Junior athletes focused on their training programmes and participating in the additional session on Saturday at the Valley Park- our thanks to the coaches for facilitating this extra practice and helping to encourage everyone to get in to tip top shape for the coming season.

Given so many of you are following the Coaches’ advice to focus on Cross Country training where you can, instead of doing the 5k Parkruns, we just have young Cillian Coy’s performance to report on – Cillian is going to be one to watch as he is starting to follow in his elder siblings’ footsteps – he clocked an impressive 29:07 time on Saturday’s 5k new temporary Waterworks course whilst the lower pond is undergoing building works.

Sunday Junior Parkruns – 2km

Sunday morning brought another window of excellent running conditions. Seventeen North Belfast Harriers runners hit the paths at the Waterworks to complete the 2km course.  Special congratulations go to young Seadna who was a very impressive 2nd place with a new PB and Miles and Oliver in the same age categories coming in at 5th and 6th – could this be a team for the future to look out for? We think so!

📢 Important Messages from the Coaching Team

  • Upcoming Ulster Even Age Group Championships: The championships are taking place at Billy Neill MBE Country Park on Sunday 25th October. As you know by now, this is one of the key targeted events where the club pays entry fees and registers athletes on your behalf. We are fielding strong teams across all age categories to challenge for Ulster individual and team titles. Our thanks to those of you who have completed the championship registration spreadsheet.
  • Cold Weather Reminder: As the evenings grow darker and colder, please make sure your child arrives at training sessions with suitable warm layers. A hoodie or jacket is required for before and after the sessions.
  • Medical Info: If your child uses an inhaler, please make sure it accompanies them to every single training session. Speak directly with the coaching team if there are any updated medical matters we need to be aware of.
  • New Members: as the club goes from strength to strength across all Junior age groups please encourage others who are interested in running to come along to the track to try it out for themselves.

Otherwise well done to all of our fantastic junior runners this week, and best of luck to everyone building up their training for the cross-country season ahead!
