NORTH BELFAST HARRIERS JUNIOR REPORT 8-14TH JUNE 2027

It was a quieter week on the racing front for our juniors, with some of our members busy representing their schools at Sports Day events. We did, however, have one young athlete take on the challenge of a mountain run – representing Northern Ireland, while several others were in action at local Parkruns. As always, our juniors gave their best effort, and it was great to see some new personal bests being achieved along the way. Well done to everyone who got out and competed this week!

NIMRA – Mountain Running

Well done to our own Ruarcc Sheridan who represented Northern Ireland at the inter-counties junior fell running championships in Eale, England. Ruarcc placed an excellent 9th place. Great running Ruarcc!

There was a fantastic turnout at the 2K Waterworks Junior Parkrun, with our juniors producing some superb performances. Sion and Eloise led the way with outstanding runs, both smashing their personal bests and finishing as the first boy and first girl respectively, well clear of the rest of the field. There was plenty more to celebrate too, with impressive new PBs from Séadhna, Luke, Sophia, Ruaidhrí, Tommy and Harry. It was great to see so many of our young runners making progress and being rewarded for their hard work in training.

Sophia Kielty was also in outstanding form, setting a new fastest time of 23:31 and continuing her impressive progress. Congratulations to both runners on their achievements, and well done to everyone who took part and represented the club so well.

Sports Day

A number of our NBH juniors were in action at their school Sports Day events this week, producing some outstanding performances and bringing home an impressive collection of medals. Maria enjoyed a remarkable day, winning gold in both the long jump and 100m while also breaking the existing Year 8 school records in both events. Fellow Year 8 athlete Maia McAllister delivered a dominant performance in the 800m, pulling clear of the field to secure gold. In the Year 9 800m, Nola and Eimear produced a superb one-two finish, claiming first and second place respectively. The successes continued in the Year 11 events, where Cassie Curran won both the 800m and 100m and capped off an excellent day by breaking the previous Sports Day records in both disciplines. Congratulations to all of our athletes on representing themselves, their schools and the club so brilliantly.

Tailteann – Inter Provincials

We would like to wish the very best of luck to our juniors who have earned the honour of representing Ulster at the Tailteann Inter-Provincial Games in Carlow next Saturday. Congratulations to Ruarcc, Cormac, Thomas, Cassie and Leila on qualifying for this prestigious event, a testament to their hard work, dedication and excellent performances throughout the season. Everyone at the club is incredibly proud of your achievements and will be cheering you on as you compete against the best athletes from across the provinces. Best of luck and enjoy the experience!

That’s all for this week folks. Remember training on Tuesday and Super Six on Thursday (keep an eye out for any training details on Thursday).
