North Belfast Harriers Run Report: 8th-14th June 2026

Dromara 5k – Wednesday 10th June

Hosted by Dromore AC & Dromara Community Group as a Cancer Research fundraiser, this midweek fixture was a challenge for all participants as they conquered the undulating roads around Dromara. Conor Fegan took on the challenge placing an impressive 7th place in 18:14.

Loughshannagh Hill & Dale Race 8 – Thursday 11th June

Conor Doris continued his great form in the Hill & Dale race series this week, tackling what is considered the hardest test in the series. The route was a full-blown mountain affair taking in Carn, Doan, Loughshannagh and Ott resulting in over 800m elevation over an 8km distance. The recent damp weather also added to the difficulty, as marshy fields and slick, rocky sections had to be navigated with skill and patience. Conor claimed 12th place overall in a time of 49:54.9. Well done, Conor!

Co Down 5k – Friday 12th June

On the 10th anniversary of this ever-popular, non-profit race, Conor Fegan and Nicky Hagan journeyed to the town of Downpatrick to test their mettle over the 5k distance on this extremely flat and fast seven and a half lap course. This uniquely organised event allows participants to run at their chosen pace, as four race options are proposed with various finishing time brackets on offer.

Taking on his second 5k race in the space of three days, Conor Fegan was the first Harrier to cross the line as he finished in a swift 17:39, with Nicky Hagan displaying a strong performance to finish in 22:57.

Glenmore Challenge Running Festival – Saturday 13th June

Organised by Glenmore AC, this festival “includes a distance for everyone”, as competitors chose from 5km, 10km, 10 miles, Half Marathon or a full Marathon distance. All races took in the stunning, unspoiled valley of Glenmore, nestled in the heart of the Cooley Peninsula.

At the shorter end of the scale, three Harriers took part in the 5km race, with Paul Blaney the quickest of the bunch placing 4th in a time of 16:53, followed by Ciaran Kavanagh in 19:08 and Joe Gallagher in 20:20.

At the other extreme lied Sandy Carr, who was provided with breathtaking views overlooking Omeath, Carlingford Lough and the magnificent Mourne Mountains as she completed the full marathon distance in a brilliant time of 4:13:49.

Mo Chara 5k Gin Run – Saturday 13th June

This annual event, hosted by Old Carrick Mill Distillery and Mo Chara Irish Spirits, is based in the historical town of Carrickmacross, County Monaghan. The event celebrates International World Gin Day, gifting finishers Mo Chara gin samples to celebrate their running accomplishment.

Colin McDowell got in the spirit of the day and was the sole representative from the club among almost 1000 runners, finishing superbly in 8th place and clocking a time of 18:50.

Parkrun

This week 110 Harriers made their way to Parkrun destinations of their choosing, with some going the extra mile (or thousands of miles) to enjoy some Parkrun tourism in Finland, Germany and South Africa! A volunteer shout-out to Philomena Donaldson who completed her 200th volunteer role this weekend – the volunteers are truly the backbone of the Parkrun community.
