North Belfast Harriers Junior Report 23rd – 29th March 2026

As we approach the end of March the weather shows no sign of settling, with torrential downpours of hail, sleet and driving rain accompanied with gale-force winds to remind us that winter still hasn’t gone away and spring is knocking on the door…..but has obviously forgotten its key.

As we progress closer to track season, the weather conditions should return to “normal”. I mean, we can’t have track season in the rain…..can we?

Belfast Primary Schools Cross Country

Tuesday 24^th March saw many of our junior stags compete in the Belfast Primary Schools XC Championships at Grove Playing Fields, Belfast. This event is organised by Belfast City Council and is part of the European City of Sport 2026 programme.

This annual event sees P6 and P7 pupils compete in the hope of making it through to the finals which will be held on 28^th April at City of Belfast Playing Fields, Mallusk. Competitors can qualify as individuals or as a team.

Primary 6 Girls

In the Primary 6 Girls race, 5 juniors took part. Georgia O’Shaughnessy was the first stag across the line taking a fabulous 2^nd place with Sophie Kielty hot on her heels in 3^rd. Close behind was Aoibhlinn Murray, Ruby Mae McLaughlin and Rosey Saunders who finished in 7^th, 9^th and 16^th places respectively.

In the P6 Team girls event, Our Lady of Lourdes PS took the first podium place with St Therese of Lisieux taking a well-deserved 3^rd.

Primary 6 Boys

In the P6 boys race, we only had the one competitor representing NBH. Pulling in a fantastic effort was Ismael McAllister who was representing Holy Family PS and finished in a great 13^th position.

Primary 7 Girls

The final race was that of the P7 girls.

Taking a commanding lead from the start, Sophia Doris romped home in first place with school and club mates Maeve McAllister and Jessica Murray finishing close behind in 3^rd and 4^th place, giving Our Lady of Lourdes a convincing team win.

Close behind was Annie Cullen who finished in 12 place and help her school, St Terese of Lisieux to a fantastic 2^nd place in the team competition.

Park Run

Saturday morning saw 18 of our junior stags brave the wind and rain and run in 6 different Park Runs and complete the 5km course. Special mention this week goes to Thomas Coy who finished in 1^st place at Waterworks Park run with an eye watering time of 17:41, and Katie Kielty who achieved a new PB with a time of 37:08 and finished in 257^th place. Well done to both of you.

Junior Park Run

Sunday morning saw the showers and wind continue, however this didn’t deter 12 of our junior stags who attended the Waterworks Junior Park run to take part in the 2km route.

Congratulations to Isaac Mooney and Eloise McAuley who both achieved excellent PB’s of 7:09 and 7:20 respectively. Well done both of you.
