North Belfast Harriers Junior Run Report: 26th August – 1st September

Laganside 10km – Kids 1 mile race

The club held its annual marquee event on Sunday with record numbers registered for both the kids 1 mile race and the 10km race.

First of all, a huge well done and thank you to the organising committee and army of volunteers who made this event happen.

The rain was threating events on the day but thankfully it held off and what followed was a well organised, fun filled afternoon that celebrated the running of all of our juniors and the 100+ kids from other clubs as well as those running for the first time.

This is a race that celebrates every kid regardless of age and speed and the reception that greeted every single one of them as they approached the finish line made them all feel like Olympic champions! Every kid left with a shiny medal and some treats with smiles all around, hopefully creating lasting memories and fuelling their love of running for the future.

In total 142 kids took part in the race with 39 Junior Stags taking part. Their results are below and what fantastic running by all of them. Big praise to the coaches!

Laganside 10k race

Also well done to the seven juniors who took on the 10k race – Dara Cassidy, Neve Johnston, Niamh McAuley, Eoin McConnell, Holly Collins, Oscar Purvis and Aodh Rafferty. Great running guys.

Congratulations Eoin

Well done to Eoin McConnell who’s been selected to the NI & Ulster U20 mountain running team. Eoin will be competing at the British & Irish mountain running championships in Wicklow on 14th September. Good luck Eoin from everyone at the club and yet another young club runner who shows the younger kids that competing at the highest level is possible when you listen to the coaches.

2km Waterworks Junior Parkrun – Sunday 1st September 2024

Unsurprisingly with our own 1 mile race taking place across in Ormeau a few hours later, it was a quieter Junior Parkrun with regards to junior stags participating. Well done to the three who made the effort!

Again, with possibly one eye on the next day, Saturday was a quieter day for our juniors taking on the 5km parkrun.

Training

Training as normal every Tuesday and Thursday at Girls Model track at 6pm

As we are approaching the Autumn nights, it would be great if any parents can help the coaches set up and take down the mobile flood lights once they are required in the weeks ahead.
