Weekend preview

This will be an unusually quiet weekend in racing terms. However, it will give Harriers a chance for some further training before a busy period of road races later this month. On Saturday, Park Run @ the Waterworks is hosting a “RUN FREE” event, sponsored by Lucozade Lite. The idea is that participants take someone new along to the race, run in fancy dress and hang around after for some light refreshments. We have managed to arrange for tea & coffee facilities …

Emma Doherty second in UK championships

Emma Doherty proved she is one of the best race walkers in the United Kingdom with a fantastic performance in London last weekend at the UK Athletics 10km Walk Championships. The event was held in central London and covered a large part of the 2012 Olympic Walking Course. Following up on her recent success on the track (last month Emma won the Ulster Schools 2000m Walk in 9.47.11), Emma turned in a personal best performance of 53.18, five seconds ahead of Lauren …

Busy week for harriers

It’s been a busy week so far in the athletics calendar with harriers racing far and wide. On Tuesday night two Harriers were in action in different venues. Club secretary Jenny Bill travelled to take part in the second of the East Antrim trail series. Jenny has been going well in triathlon season and finished 11th in this race – 2nd woman. Results here. Weekend report: Breege, Marty and Sharon excel

The Edinburgh marathon and half marathon took place in stormy conditions yesterday with Breege Connolly travelling to take part in the marathon and Sharon Bird taking part in the half marathon. Breege had an outstanding run in the marathon, with a halfway split of 1:23, to finish 4th female in 2:52:54. This knocks 3 minutes of her previous marathon PB. Harriers Winning Weekend (updated Monday)

This week has witnessed a number of fantastic performances by the club’s men and women over different distances throughout the province, Republic of Ireland and UK. Last Wednesday night, Eamon White ran a brilliant race to secure the runner’s up spot in the 2nd Dundalk Half Marathon. Held over a fast circut on the outskirts of the City, Eamon posted an excellent time of 1.12.51,  just 20 seconds behind the winner Gary O’Hanlon. Dundalk results here. Waterworks Park Run 27: Report (video attached)

Darryl Blair finally put together a performance worthy of his training this morning with an easy win in 16.45. Comfortable throughout, Darryl was never challenged as he recorded a new personal best. Paddy Hamill was the next harrier home in 4th place (17:52) but he will go quicker once the Belfast Marathon is out of his legs. This morning also witnessed good performances from Davy Brady (pb in 18.10), Eoin McQuillan’s comeback (19.05) and Mark Sturgeon’s first outing over the Park Run circut (19.13). …
