Several harriers were racing in far and wide locations at the weekend taking part in a variety of road and track events in both Northern Ireland and England. North Belfast Harrier’s Stephen Scullion enters a busy period of races in the next few weeks as part of his build up to qualification for Deagu 2011. Stephen returned from altitute training at Font Romeu four weeks ago and followed that up a successful run in the BUPA London 10km. Several Harriers took to the line on Wednesday night for the Craigavon 10k around the lakes. The course is renowned for being flat however the wind on Wednesday night made it a little bit more difficult than normal. Conor Curran was first Harrier over the line in 3rd place. Conor ran his second sub 34 10k in succession to post 33:45 and fend of Ballymena’s Neill Douglas ,who he’s been having a running battle with in recent races, over the last mile. …

Cathy McCourt proved there is plenty of speed left in her legs as she placed 4th in the Flora Mini Marathon 10km held in Dublin this evening. Cathy posted a time of 36 minutes 14 seconds and was with the leading pack until 5 miles which was passed in 28 mins 25 seconds. The race was won by Catriona Jennings in 35.28. Race website here

In the end, Spider Man overtook Big Banana but The Flying Scotsman finished strongest.   Park Run 31 on Saturday was the first “RUN FREE” event where participants of all ages were invited to come in Fancy Dress and boy did the people of Belfast respond !   A glorious sunny morning saw a record 195 Park Runners of all shapes, sizes, colour and costumes take part. Emma Doherty finished just outside the medals at the Irish Schools Championships in Tullamore at the weekend. Coming straight off the back of her second place in the UKA 10KM Walk, Emma dropped down in distance to compete over the 3000m. The Malone College pupil was up against Irish Star, Kate Veale of St Augustines who demolished the field in a 12.40.09. Emma recorded a time of 14.58.20 some way of her best time of 14.07 recorded last year in Tullamore. Results …
