North Belfast Harriers Race Report 13th-19th July 2026

This week saw more days of warmth and sunshine which Harriers could enjoy or endure depending on their perspective, and came to a relaxed end for those who enjoyed time in the clubhouse together for a chinwag and a cuppa.

Portsmouth 5000 – Saturday 18th July

Matthew Carleton took to the track at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth to take on the 5000m distance. The event’s aim was “bringing the energy of London’s big PB festivals to the South Coast”. Matthew channeled his energy into running a brilliant time over 12.5 laps finishing in 8th place in his race in 19:47.

Trying his hand at a shorter distance, he followed this up on Sunday 19th July at the Southern Athletics League. Running under Southampton AC, he raced in the 1500m, finishing in 5:23.

Rossi 5k – Sunday 19th July

As part of the annual Fiddler’s Green Festival, the Rossi 5k race was established in memory of Eoin Farrell, and the event continues to celebrate community, participation and giving back. The course takes participants on a fast and scenic route through Rostrevor before returning to a lively finish in the village square.

Conor Fegan made the trip and finished in an impressive 11th place in a time of 18:27.

Irish Runner 10 Mile Race – Sunday 19th July

Joe Gallagher was the sole representative of North Belfast Harriers to make the journey to Phoenix Park, Dublin, for the Irish Runner 10 Mile Race. This event was the third in a series of 5k, 5 mile and 10 mile races, organised by Athletics Ireland and incorporating the Irish National Championships. There were over 1,600 runners who completed the race, which started and finished in Chesterfield Avenue in the centre of Phoenix Park.

Conditions were favourable for the start of the race at 9AM, although the pleasant sunshine did cause the temperature to rise as the race progressed. Joe finished in 1 hour 12 min 16 secs and placed 329th overall.

Run With Pride 5k – Sunday 19th July

To kick off Pride Week in Belfast, this inaugural run was hosted by The Rainbow Project in Ormeau Park on a sunny Sunday morning.

Laurice Falsis-Marsden and Martin McLarnon were among over 400 runners who enjoyed the tree-lined paths of the park, and finished in 32:45 and 33:04 respectively. It is great to see a running event with such a party atmosphere and festively-dressed crowd!

Darragh Cross 10k – Sunday 19th July

Barry Rooney travelled to the rural village of Darragh Cross, Co. Down for this running event, hosted by Darragh Cross Community Association. Runners were spoilt with a scenic route and great post-run hospitality. With 5km and 10km race options on offer, Barry opted for the latter, finishing in a time of 44:07.

Tri Tyrone 70.3 – Sunday 19th July

Sam Carr represented at this sold-out event, said to be ‘one of Ireland’s leading Middle Distance Triathlon events’. Centred around Eskragh Lough in Dungannon, the event served as the Triathlon Ireland Middle Distance National Championships for 2026.

Sam put in an excellent performance finishing 11th overall and 1st in his category, completing the half marathon segment in a time of 1hr 19mins, resulting in an overall time of 4hrs 16mins – a great achievement!

NBH Coffee Morning – Sunday 19th July

It was fantastic to have another coffee morning this Sunday at the clubhouse, and especially great to see some of faces from the past whose running photographs decorate the walls and who have contributed towards the club over the years.
