After almost two months of constant rain, the sun eventually appeared at the very end of February, and then went away again. Needless to say, none of this has deterred our Juniors who continue to jog, run, race and do themselves proud. This week had several cross country events and some big news stories to report.
Flahavans – Primary School Cross Country
This event took place on 27 February and was the final event in the series where the fastest primary school cross country runners raced it out against each other. Well done to Sophia Doris who took part in the final and finished a very impressive 13th place.

East Coast AC – Junior Cross Country Series (Part 2)
Congratulations to all our junior runners who took part in this event. This is an excellent event and the top 3 lucky runners in each race all win an easter egg.
Georgia O’Shaughnessy won the minor girls event and Eva Mooney took an excellent 4th place.
In the Minor Boys, Miles McKinney and Luke Doris took 8th and 9th and ran very strongly. Cillian Coy made his racing debut for North Belfast Harriers and ran well to finish 20th.
In the Junior Girls, Sophia Doris claimed first place with a very strong performance. Jessica Murray took 3rd place. Lucy Jones and Fóla O’Kane were soon after in 8th and 10th. Well done girls.
In the Junior Boys race, Mason Mercer had an excellent run and won the race. Isaac Mooney was not far behind in 3rd. Top 10 places were also well deserved from Oisín Caldwell, Ethan Huddleston and Luke O’Shaughnessy (6,7,8). Yes, there is a 6-7 in there!
Eimear Coy was the sole representative in the Senior Girls race. She had an excellent run and finished in second place. Well done Eimear.
In the Senior Boys race, Lucas Mooney finished a superb second in a very fast race. James O’Shaughnessy and Cohen Turley were 5th and 9th. Well done lads.

Extra Cross Country Training & Schools All Ireland Final

Our final Saturday Cross Country training session (for the older kids) took place. Many of our runners will take part in the All-Ireland Schools Final in Mallusk on Saturday 7 March. They are in great shape and we should hopefully hear some fantastic results. There are some SIAB places up for grabs too for those athletes who can place very highly – this would allow them international representation and a possibility to compete against runners from England/Scotland/Wales. It would be great if we could get as much support for them in Mallusk as possible.
