North Belfast Harriers Race Report: 8th-14th December 2025

As we accelerate towards the end of the year, Harriers showed no signs of slowing down this week as they took part in races near and far, along with great numbers attending Parkruns across the world.

Run Forest Run Tollymore 10k – 13th December

Tollymore Forest Park was a beautiful setting for some festive forest running as Harriers joined over 800 other runners for the Born2Run Tollymore 10k on Saturday morning. Races in the Run Forest Run series often come with challenges, and this muddy and undulating course was no different, however participants were rewarded with the some stunning scenery at the foot of the Mourne Mountains. Christmas attire was on full display resulting in some participants jingling all the way to the finish line! Well done to those who took on the challenge.

European Cross Country Championships – 14th December

Emily Haggard-Kearney represented Ireland in the Senior Women Race at this prestigious cross country event, which this year took place in Lagoa, Portugal. The route and conditions proved testing for all athletes, but Emily successfully completed the approx 7.3km race in 27:06, placing a highly impressive 44th among the best in the Europe, while also helping the Irish women’s team to finish 10th in the rankings. A great and hard-fought achievement!

Telford 10k – 14th December

Two Harriers journeyed to Telford on Sunday to take part in this event which is “statistically proven as the fastest 10k course in the UK”. Chris Fielding put this to the test and became the 4th fastest Stag of all time over the 10km distance, breaking the magic 30-minute barrier by clocking a Personal Best time of 29:56. He was backed up by Connor McCann who rang strongly to finish in 33:58. Great running all round!

Málaga Half Marathon – 14th December

Gerry Gribbon was the sole club representative at this annual road running event in the capital of Costa del Sol. The relatively flat course took in beautiful parts of the city, and runners enjoyed some Winter sunshine to see them to the finish line. Gerry completed this run in 2:08:37.

The Running Bubble 5K Santa Dash – 14th December

On an unseasonably mild Sunday afternoon, Wallace Park in Lisburn welcomed runners for a Christmas-themed event including a kid’s fun run, and a 5k Santa Dash, hosted by The Running Bubble in partnership with Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council, with proceeds going to Action Cancer.

Participants saw this as a fantastic way to get into the holiday spirit while testing themselves around loops of the park, encouraged by cheerful supporters, marshals and helpful pacers from Road Runners AC. A dozen merry club members dashed around the route, with Fionnuala O’Hare first home as 3rd female overall. Well done to all!

Parkrun

This Saturday saw 106 Harriers enjoy their weekly fix of Parkrun fun, with some even pushing themselves towards new Personal Best times! The PB achievers this week: Ruarcc Sheridan, Joseph Eager, Oisin Caldwell, Joanne Boal, Mason Mercer and Rosy Ryan.

Placing highly this week: Zac Wilson (1st male at Waterworks), Frances McMullan (3rd female at Falls), Colin McDowell (2nd male at CityPark), Natasha Hersom (2nd female at Antrim), Sarah-Jane McFadden (1st female at Sixmilewater), Helen F Weir (1st female at Valley), Fionnuala O’Hare (1st female at Belvoir), David Foster and Andrew Newell (1st and 2nd at Carrickfergus).

As always, these events could not run without volunteers – many thanks to all those who contribute their time each week.
