We are back !! And what a way to start the new season !! The annual Laganside Junior Mile saw a record turnout from our young Stags with all runners, organisers, coaches, mums and dads putting in maximum effort. Well done everyone.

This event is organised and marshalled by the club and its many volunteers, so first and foremost a very big thank you for all those who helped in any way – it really was a great event and a great day. A special mention should also go to the medal designers – it looks superb, a real keeper (Great North Run organisers take note !).

But of course the biggest congratulations goes to all the runners who turned up and stretched their legs, many doing so for the first time, and some perhaps doing so for the last time as they move up in age group. Participation is the main success, but of course competing and achieving ever improving times is the focus, and as always the juniors did not disappoint – there were some great runs and times across the age groups, both the girls and boys.

As such special mention must go to our very own Thomas Coy who was first over the line in 4 mins 20 secs, with two more Stags tying on a time of 4 mins 32 secs and in joint 3rd place – well done Leo McAuley and Ruarcc Sheridan. First girl over the line also wore the Stag colours, with Cassie Curran carrying on her winning form in a time of 4 mins 49 secs – super as always Cassie ! And joining her on the podium as 3rd placed girl in a time of 5 mins 3 seconds was her team mate Leila Jones. Well done Leila.

The club and coaches now focus on training and preparing for the first Cross Country race of the year, and the first muddy shoes/legs/car/dog event takes place on Sunday 21st September in Armagh. This is a well organised annual event and a great warm up for Ulster Championships and all young Stags are strongly encouraged to enter. The NBH tent will be up and plenty of experienced club helpers on hand to guide new runners (and mums and dads). Entry details can be found at https://eventmaster.ie/event/kGW6HK2TA2
In the meantime training carries on as normal, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and with the weather changing and nights drawing in please ensure our runners are wearing appropriate clothing.
