It’s official. North Belfast Harriers is pleased to announce the inaugural Galloper Thompson 5k race.

Named after Galloper Thompson, the infamous headless horseman of North Belfast, was once a feared figure said to ride through Jennymount on stormy nights, striking terror into anyone caught outdoors after dark. For years, his ghostly presence faded into nothing more than a fireside tale, a warning whispered to children. But now, rumours stir again, some swear they saw him only today, thundering past on his phantom steed. Could it be that Galloper Thompson has returned?……

Fri 29th Aug: GRC Coastal 5k
A fast, flat, award-winning 5k point to point race, starting in Carnlough, running through the village and finishing in neighbouring Glenarm.
Nine Harriers took to the scenic coastal roads to complete in the race with Conor Curren securing 4th place for the club. Well done all.

Fri 29th Aug: Uphill Masters Mountain World Championships
Huge congratulations to Phil Goss for an outstanding performance at the Uphill Masters Mountain World Championships in Meduno, Italy.
Meduno represents the gateway to Val Tramontina. Located at 313 m above sea level, it is made up of various villages, the highest of which is Borgo Cilia, at an altitude of 555 m above sea level.

The race a gruelling climb of 800m from Valinis to Mont Valinis.
Philip finished 12th overall, in a time of 40:37 scoring crucial points for the Irish team, and helped Team M40 secure the Bronze Medal.
Absolutely phenomenal achievement!

Sat 30th Aug: Home Nations 5k
Two North Belfast Harriers joined the Northern Ireland team to compete in the fourth Sportsshoes Home Nations 5K. On a multi-lap circuit of Coopers Field in Bute Park, both athletes achieved great results in the race in the Welsh Capital.

Andrew Milligan completed the course in 14:20.1 while Chris Fielding crossed the line in 14:44.3.
Well done to you both.

Sat 30th Aug: The Monument Mile Classic
The University of Stirling Athletics Track was the setting for this fast race testing the mettle of our track athletes.
Niall Armstrong represented the club with a time of 5:02.65.

Sat 30th Aug 2025: PARKRUNS
A total of 116 Harriers took part in 25 parkruns.

Well done to this week’s First Lady Finishers: Sarah-Jane McFADDEN (Valley parkrun), Cathy McCOURT (Colin Glen parkrun) and Holly COLLINS (Sixmilewater parkrun).

And to the one gent: Cormac LEHENY (Waterworks parkrun).

PBs were achieved by Oisin CALDWELL, Sarah-Jane McFADDEN, Sandy CARR, Peter DOLAN, Nola JAMIESON and Eadaoin KELLY.

Lindsay BELL clocked up 250 parkruns this week while Mark SMITH completed his 50th.
