North Belfast Harriers Junior Report 9th-15th June 2025

Another busy weekend of running culminated in day 2 of the NI & Ulster U14-U19 Age Group Championship track event, whilst our younger runners continued to lay the foundations for their future participation in this event – with numerous Personal Best times and milestones passed, such as Ellen Cullen running her 21^st Junior Park Run !!

But first to the track, and this weekend to Mary Peters on Sunday.  Starting the Harriers off was Eimear Coy in a tough field of runners in the U14 girls 1500m, but Eimear dug deep and finished in a time of 6.09 minutes.

In the boys U14 1500m two Harriers battled it out and Cillian McLoughlin just edged it over Cormac Carabine for club honours – Cillian coming 5^th in 4.49 minutes and Cormac 6^th in 4.52 minutes, with both times being PBs.  Well done boys.

Next up and Cormac Leheny continued his fine form in the U15 boys 1500m by leading from the front to finish 1^st in 4.22 minutes.  Another gold medal Cormac !  Ruarcc Sheridan also put in a fine performance with  a PB of 4.38 minutes and only 1 second outside of 4^th place and qualification for the All Irelands, whilst Tom McLoughlin ran a brave race with a finishing time of 5.27 minutes.

A trio of young Harriers also ran in the U16 boys 1500m and Thomas Coy sliced yet more time off his PB to finish a very strong second place in 4.20 minutes and join Cormac Leheny for another road trip to Tullamore for the All Ireland finals.  Super running Thomas. Also battling it out in this race were Leo McAuley and Seamus Wolff, finishing 10th and 15th respectively in a tough group of runners.

And last but not least in the 1500m we saw Cadence Hamilton run a Season Best of 5.02 minutes in the U17 girls race – well done Cadence !

And finally, and at a much shorter distance, Emily McRitchie ran the U19 girls 400m in a winning time of 1.05 minutes. Great medal Emily !

The All Irelands take place over two weekends starting on 28/29^th June and we wish all those that qualified and making the journey down to Tullamore all the best of luck !  And those planning to run make sure you sign up – the club can not do this for you.

Weekend Parkruns

As usual we saw a good turnout from the young Harriers at various Parkrun events on both Saturday and Sunday.  Some highlights include Dara Cassidy coming 6^th at the Waterworks 5km; a batch of PBs at the Waterworks 2km and Woodvale 2km; Alex Reid continuing his great form with a PB of 19.11 minutes at the Victoria Park 5km; and two of our youngest runners showing the Shelbourne Parkrun 2km in Limerick how the Harriers fly, with Isaac Mooney coming 1^st in a time of 7.08 and Eva Mooney close behind in 4^th in a time of 9.23 minutes.

Other News

After being selected previously for the NI Junior Endurance Squad, Sophie and Isaac completed their first training session with the group this last week – flying the flag for the Harriers !!

The Fab 5 series of Track and Field events at Mary Peters continues this Thursday evening – good luck to all those competing and if the weather forecast is finally correct spectators might also enjoy a summers evening watching the competitors !

Training continues as normal on Tuesday but as above Thursday is race night !!
