There was plenty of action again this week with the continuation of the Fab 5 Series at the Mary Peters Track on Thursday evening, some older Juniors participating in the Ballyclare Mayfair 5k and a strong showing at various Parkrun events over the weekend so let’s take a look at how everyone performed and what is coming up to look forward to.
Fab Five Series

There was an impressive turnout of NBH athletes at this week’s Fab Five Series with a special shout out going to our youngest athletes Eva Mooney, Etain McLouglin and Ruby Mae McLouglin all performing in the Under 10s 400m, some donning their Harriers vests in a track event for the first time – let’s hope you got a taste for it girls and will be keen to do more in the future! Also special congratulations to Cillian McLoughlin who got a bronze medal in the Under14 Boys 400m event, to Leila Jones who got a bronze medal in the Under 16 Girls 600m, to Thomas Coy who got a silver medal in the Under 16 Boys 600m, and to Cadence Hamilton who also got a silver medal in the Under 18 Girls 3000m event. And a big thank you to each and every one of the remaining Harriers for participating in this event – it was a really strong show of talent from the club across a wide variety of events which was great to see!

Ballyclare Mayfair 5km

Meanwhile a massive congratulations must go out to club athletes Emily McRitchie and Holly Collins who participated in the Ballyclare May Fair 5km on Saturday, with Emily finishing as first lady in the event. What a run you both had – you should know that you set a great example, particularly to our young junior female athletes!
Waterworks Parkrun Results

It was a muggy but overcast start to the day on Saturday, following the end of the national obsession that was the 2 week spell of glorious sunny weather (we were hotter than Spain, you know!) Some 11 Juniors stretched their legs over the Waterworks route with Cormac Leheny coming in as first finisher (he’s making a habit of it!) and our warmest congratulations to Parkrun enthusiast Eva McLoughlin, who hit a significant milestone doing her 50th senior Parkrun – well done Eva! – as well as to Oran Steele, who got a smashing PB of 24.15 – congrats Oran! Kudos to all of you who continue to develop yourselves through ongoing participation in the Parkrun events.

Waterworks Junior Parkrun
Then on Sunday morning at the Waterworks Junior Parkrun Thomas Weiniger put in an excellent performance to finish in 2nd place, followed by Maria Maguire (who as well as being a keen athlete is performing the lead role as Dorothy in Park Lodge’s Wizard of Lourdes this week – break a leg Maria – not really!!) and Cohen Turley in 3rd and 4th place. PBs were dropping left, right and centre with Cohen Turley, Aoife Lemon, Ronan O’Neill and Eva Mooney all performing personal bests. Again congrats to you all!

Future Events and Training News
Just a reminder that there is no training on 16th June and 21st August (Fab 5 event at Mary Peters) and between 26th June – 5th August for the summer break.
We would encourage NBH members/ friends/ parents to help with the Parkrun Takeover at Falls Park on Saturday 31st May as the Club are always keen to assist others in the running fraternity – we can help boost their profile and event by volunteering or running – anyone who is keen to assist can find further details through the club’s Facebook page.
For those who qualified through the Ulster Schools events the 2025 All Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships, this will take place on Friday 30th May 2025 at Tullamore Harriers AC – good luck to our athletes participating in this prestigious event!
Finally thanks again to everyone for showing your commitment and support for the Laganside Kids Mile on Sunday 7th September 2025 – as you know that event has completely sold out –so it is now over to the parents to sign up for the club’s headline event on the same date the Laganside 10k – there is plenty of time to train up for it over the summer months and a great opportunity to show the kids that they are inspiring you too, to join in, in support of the Club!
