North Belfast Harriers Junior Run Report: 10th February – 16th February 2025

A quieter week which hasn’t been the norm for a while due to a lot of cross country recently, but this writer is willing to forgo dozens of results and spreadsheets this time round!

Speaking of cross country, many of our Juniors will be racing in the Ulster Schools finals this Wednesday up in Mallusk. Best of luck to everyone and we’re confident they’ll make their schools and the club proud. Races commence at Midday sharp, keep an eye on the WhatsApp channel for any updates if you’re not already up there cheering them on.

A big shout out this week to Katie-Lousie Goodfellow and her dad Derek for their fantastic interview in Belfast Live! Katie-Louise and her dad are regularly seen at parkruns and race events across the region.

Dublin Athletics Indoor graded meeting – 12th February

Well done to Cassie Curran who made the long journey down the M1 to Dublin to race in the U16 girls indoor 800m and the journey was not in vain as Cassie finished in second place in a fantastic time of 2:24:09!

Irwin Spiers XC – 15th February

On a hilly and rutted course in Cookstown at the weekend, Eoin McConnell lifted Gold in the U18 race leading from the start and crossing the line in 17:21, over a minute and half of the second placed overall runner in the race. Hitting form just in time for Ulster Schools!

It may have been a wet and miserable morning but that didn’t deter our eight juniors running the junior parkrun in the Waterworks. Special mention to both Eva’s…not only do they share the same name and are club mates but also crossing the line together, what great clubmates pacing each other!

Event Calendar

Queens 3k – Belfast

The annual Queens 3k race takes place on 2nd April at 6.45pm. This is a great event for the older post primary school Juniors that has great support on a flat course under the lights. A competitive race with many clubs participating, good experience for Juniors.

Further details and registration at Queen’s 5K | Queen’s University Belfast

Training

Training as normal every Tuesday and Thursday at Girls Model track from 6pm

Please make sure the kids are warmly kitted out for training, the evenings are still very cold.

Any help with taking down the floodlights is appreciated by the coaches as means we all get home in good time.

That’s all for this week. Have a great week and best of luck at Ulster Schools Finals!
