Queens Round the River 5km

The QUB 5km “Round the River” took place in Stranmillis last night in perfect racing conditions. Almost 700 runners took to the line for this event which is organised by students in the Queen’s Athletics Club and in association with Powerade. The race also served as an official warm up event for the Deep River Rock Belfast City Marathon. Park Run Round Up

The 21st Park Run took place in a sunbathed Waterworks Park on Saturday morning. On a quiet day for local fixtures, an enthusiastic crowd of nearly 200 turned out for the start. Paul Carroll (Annadale Striders) took an early lead and maintained it, although Conor Curran was making good ground towards the end of the race. Carroll won in 16.24 from Curran in 16.34. Harriers in Inter County Action

It was a day of mixed fortunes for two North Belfast Harriers at the Inter Counties Championships at the CAFRE Campus in Greenmount, Antrim this weekend. Stephen Scullion and Cathy McCourt were competing for Ulster against strong teams from England, Wales, Scotland, Republic of Ireland and the Midlands. The men’s race, held over 10.8km saw Stephen Scullion take the lead after approximately one mile. North Belfast Harriers had another good day at the races in Larne with Sharon Bird winning the womens race in 1:20:05 (a new PB).Geraldine Quigley also had a good race to finish 8th woman in 1:34:14. More victories for North at Downpatrick

North Belfast had another successful day at the office yesterday at East Down AC’s annual Jimmys 10k event. Stephen Scullion justified his favourite tag by demolishing the rest of the field and finishing one minute and eleven seconds ahead of the second place Joe McAllister.
