We were treated to another week of crunchy leaves and Autumnal hues, so some may be mistaken for thinking the yellow vests of Harriers would blend into the foliage, but instead we saw some stand-out performances over a variety of terrains. Let’s get stuck into the action…
Born2Run Minnowburn 10k – Saturday 31st October
The first race in the ever-popular Run Forest Run Winter Race Series kicked off this weekend in ideal conditions. The unique route starts and finishes at the legendary Mary Peters Track, and continues out along forest trails and country roads, taking runners through National Trust property at Minnowburn and back along the banks of the Lagan.
Six Harriers were in the mix at this event with Niall Armstrong finishing highest in 11th place overall and Nuala Muldoon claiming 4th female over the line. Great running all round!

Bobby Rea XC – Sunday 1st November 2026
Following this event’s postponement due to stormy weather last weekend, runners were gifted with sunny, dry conditions as they laced up to take on the undulating course at Billy Neill Playing Fields.
As tribute to the morning’s sad news of the death of one of Ireland’s greatest Olympians, Ciara Mageean, spectators and participants joined together to observe a touching minute’s silence before the start of the Senior Women’s race.
17 club members raced around the route, with a notable mention to Emily McRitchie, who placed 4th U20 Female in a competitive field of women.

New York City Marathon – Sunday 1st November 2026
Two club runners went stateside for this world major marathon event as it celebrated its 50th birthday with over 50,000 runners journeying through the five boroughs of the famous city. Encouraged by cheering crowds, both men snuck in below the coveted 3-hr marker, making it Arran’s 6th sub-3hr major marathon, and Sean’s 5th sub-3hr major marathon. Superb achievements all round!

Parkrun
103 Harriers took to their local, or not so local, Parkruns this week, with locations spanning from the top of the island in Donegal, to the bottom in Cork!
High finishers included John Murphy (3rd, Ards Forest Park), David Clarke (1st, Larne), April Clarke (1st, Larne), Erin Beattie (3rd, Larne), Ryan Moore (1st, Derry City), Colin McDowell (1st, Enniskillen), Marcel Corry (1st, Belvoir Forest), Neil Carty (3rd, Belvoir Forest), David Foster (1st, Valley) and Bo Morrison (3rd, Falls).
Some shiny new Personal Bests were also achieved by Eoin McCann, April Clarke, Peter Dolan and Marcel Corry – well done everyone!
Not forgetting the stars of the show who give their time and energy to help out before, during and after each event – the volunteers! Many thanks to all club members who contributed to making Parkruns happen this weekend.
