North Belfast Harriers Race Report 4th-10th May 2026

With the excitement of last week’s Belfast City marathon now behind us there were still road and mountain racing opportunities this week for the athletes of North Belfast Harriers.

Hill & Dale Race 4: Binnian to the top

The race started at the Head Road, then followed the Carrick-a-Little track to the Mourne Wall before climbing directly to the summit of Slieve Binnian (747m). Philip Goss joined the field of over 300 runners and took a fine 4th place overall and a win in the M40 category.

Termoneeny 5k & 10k (Friday 8th May)

The popular Termoneeny 5k/10k took place on Friday evening on the undulating course at Gulladuff, near Maghera. Two harriers made the trip to race the 10k. Congratulations to Mark Smith who took the win in 34:56 and to Nuala Muldoon who was runner up in the F40-49 category in 44:28. Full results were:

Run the Runways 5k/10k (Friday 8th May)

Ards airfield was the venue for the popular Run the Runways races on Friday evening. Marcel Corry and Jason Reid took on the 5k and both recorded fast times on the pancake flat circuit that nevertheless features a number of out and back sections. Full results were:

NIMRA Watertown Wander 10k (Sat 9th May)

The Watertown Wander is a new mountain race promoted by NIMRA to help raise some much needed funds. The course started at Silent Valley dam and included the local mountain trails and the summit of Slievenaglogh with a few boggy sections to test the leg strength a little more. Martsje Hell represented the harriers in the 71 strong field and, marking her return to racing after recent knee surgery, excelled with 3rd place in the ladies race.

Belfast Irish Milers Meet (Sat 9th May)

Sunny conditions on Saturday saw a number of records broken in the annual Miler’s meet at Mary Peters track. There were also fine performances from the NBH athletes over the 800m and 3000m distances. Full results were:

NI Masters Awards Dinner (Sat 9th May)

A number of harriers were honoured by the NIMAA at their awards dinner on Saturday night. Congratulations to all and a special mention to David Clarke who was named ‘Male Athlete of the Year’ for the third year in a row. Awards went to:
