North Belfast Harriers Race Report 29th September – 5th October 2025

Storm Amy buffeted Ireland and northern parts of Britain causing the cancellation of numerous sporting events, including many races. However, as always members of North Belfast Harriers, undeterred by inclement weather, took advantage of whatever opportunities there were to test themselves against their peers on roads and parks locally and further afield.

North Belfast Harriers Excel with Category Wins and Podium Places at the Armagh 10 Mile Road Race, Sunday 5th October

In the aftermath of the storm, three Harriers took to the roads around the ancient monument of Emain Macha for the Armagh 10 Mile Road race and produced some outstanding performances. Michael Lamont was the first of the Harriers home in 59min: 55sec, second in the M35 category and in 17th place overall. Louise Smith ran a great race to finish first in the F55 category, 42nd overall in 1hour: 06min: 34sec. Janice Plumb finished third in the same category in 1hour: 13min: 08sec, in 70th place overall. Well done to all three runners on some exemplary running.

Irish ¾ Marathon, Longwood, Co Meath, Sunday 5th October

Storm Amy was memory as nine North Belfast Harriers took part in the Irish Three-Quarter Marathon, starting and finishing in the Co. Meath village of Longwood. Perfect running conditions greeted the more than 1,200 athletes who took to the roads, enjoying scenic views throughout picturesque Royal Meath. Well done to all the runners, who seemed to revel in the not inconsequential challenge of running the 31.6km distance.

Parkruns, Saturday 13th September

Locally the aftermath of Storm Amy left almost all of the Parkruns in this part of the island cancelled. However, there was a bumper turnout of runners at the couple of events left unaffected and there were many Harriers amongst the crowd.

Worth a special mention this week are Cathy Scullion, Zak Wilson, John Gerard Murphy, Ian Brennan, Matt Shields and Joanne Boal, who all recorded new PBs on their respective courses.

Well done to all those who participated, the runners and especially the volunteers, without whom the events could not be staged.
