Looking ahead to the European Club Champions Cup 2nd February 2025
We are incredibly excited to represent Ireland for the 2 nd year in a row at the European club
cross country championships in Portugal on the 2 nd February. We’re confident we can build
on the experience gained last year and improve on our team finish of 18 th in Europe.
This would not be possible without the incredible generosity of our sponsors Rosemount
Homes. They have made having a full team, travelling with 2 team managers and acquiring
new race kit possible and we can’t thank them enough for their support.
Michael Lindsay, commercial director at Rosemount Homes, the residential development
arm of the Lagan Specialist Contracting Group, said “We are delighted to be able to renew
our sponsorship with North Belfast Harriers following our previous association with the club
back in 2022 when we sponsored the Rosemount Mile. We admire the club’s commitment
not only to developing a wonderful community approach to health and wellbeing in North
Belfast but also nurturing and growing talent to compete at the European level. It’s a great
credit to all involved at the club and we wish them every success in Portugal.”
Rosemount Homes is in the process of completing the final sales of it successful
development of 102 homes at Black Quarter Meadows in Carryduff and has recently
commenced its latest prestigious development of 20 detached family homes on the Upper
Road in Greenisland due for release in the coming months via McMillan McClure Estate
Agents.
We are very pleased to see the strong representation of our other Northern Irish clubs.
Lagan Valley’s U20 boys qualifying for the 2 nd year in a row. Lagan Valley U20 girls qualifying
after their brilliant win. Letterkenny qualifying for the senior women led by an inspired
performance from Ann-Marie McGlynn. Candour with an outstanding performance,
showcasing the true depth of their team to take the senior men’s title. Being the first club
from Northern Ireland to win the senior national XC title since 1955.
North Belfast Harriers have been thriving across all areas with junior membership up to 110
and 256 senior members at the club now. From juniors placing top 10 in all Ireland cross
country to David Clarke competing for world & European titles in his 60s. We organise
training for all levels and abilities even for those starting running we offer a couch to 5k
programme. Matt Shields brought parkrun to Ireland and set up the junior parkrun here also.
We like to contribute and get involved in the community in North Belfast.
Our recent success in senior competition is down to the hard work that has been done
consistently over the years by our athletes that are now reaping the rewards of all their
training. However, I would personally like to extend my gratitude to our coaches Jim
McGuinness & Seamus McCann. They have brought structure and insight which has allowed
us to develop as a group to a level we would not be able to achieve without their expertise.
From the athletes competing that placed at the Irish Senior Cross country in Irvinestown and
will be representing North Belfast Harriers/Ireland at European Clubs on the 2 nd February.
Andrew Milligan – Running very well at the moment, 10k PB at Valencia a couple weeks ago
in 29:13.
Finn McNally – first Irish man home in the senior men’s race at Euro clubs last year coming
29 th . Hasn’t raced much recently but is hoping he can improve on last years performance.
Matthew Lavery – Brilliant breakthrough run into the senior ranks in Irvinestown at the
National cross coming 9 th overall and 4 th U23. Ran for Ireland at European cross country
championships in Antalya in December. Feeling very strong in training and hoping to
improve on last years performance where he placed 54 th despite being the youngest in the
field.
Conan McCaughey – Getting back into shape after being down with the flu. Always a strong
competitor. Took the bronze medal at the recent NI Masters cross country in Derry a couple
of weeks ago.
