There were plenty of opportunities to race a rapid road five or ten kilometres this Bank Holiday Weekend as well as the usual Thursday Hill & Dale in the Mournes. North Belfast Harriers were again well represented at the front and throughout the fields of runners racing this week.
Hill & Dale Lukes (Meelmore)
On Thursday evening, the latest in the Newcastle AC’s Hill and Dale Series started from Meelmore Lodge and headed out onto the slopes of The Mournes taking in Slievenagloogh and Luke’s Mountain. North Belfast’s Conor Doris placed 7th in 41:38 for the 7kms and 440m of climb.
Ballyclare May Fair 5k & 10k
Saturday morning saw the annual races return to Ballyclare as part of the Fair festivities. There were podium performances from the juniors up to the most senior. In the 5K Thomas Coy was 2nd MJ and 8th overall in 18:14. Holly Collins took 2nd with 19:30 and Natasha Henderson placed 3rd in 20:14. Emily McRitchie was 2nd FJ in 21:00.

In the 10K Matthew Lavery was a clear 1st in 31:31, Ryan Moore was 3rd M40 with 35:36. Debbie McConnell dominated with a 1st place of 38:46 whilst April Clarke was 2nd in 41:19.

Almac 5k and 10k
Craigavon Lakes was the venue for the Almac 5 and 10K races on Saturday. The annual event raises funds for the Air Ambulance and several Harriers raced around the lakes in the late Spring sunshine.

Marconi 5 Mile
On Sunday Ballycastle Runners AC hosted the coastal five miler. The scenic run (with one wee hill) attracted a great number of runners to the north coast. Amongst them was Colm Smyth who ran 52:06.
Newry 10k & Half Marathon
Newry was also busy on Sunday morning for the annual 10K and Half Marathon. With a fast flat course, many runners were aiming for a PB. Eamon White took 2nd place in the 10k whilst Karlene, Cheryl, Derek and Katie-Louise took on the Half Marathon.

Lough Cutra, Galway
At the weekend festival of swim, bike and running in County Galway, Sam Carr placed 13th in the aquathlon on the Saturday in 38:14 (750m swim and 5k run). On the Sunday Sam won the 10k in 41:28 and Sandy was 19th with 54:07.

Coalisland was the venue for the Newell 5 and 10K races, again several Harriers headed to County Tyrone to run some fast times. Conan took 3rd place in the 10K
