It’s Another Gold as David Clarke lifts the National 5k title! Athletics Ireland, Irish Runner 5K, Saturday 18th May

David Clarke, the sole representative of North Belfast Harriers, lifted the M60, 5k title at Phoenix Park in Dublin on Saturday. Racing alongside over 1800 athletes in the 5k championship race, around the picturesque environment of Phoenix Park, David ran a superb race, following on from his recent successes in the European Indoor Championships in Poland. The 5k race was the first of a series of championship road races, at different distances, organised by Athletics Ireland. David produced a great performance to lift gold in the M60 category, finishing in a fantastic time of 17 min: 22 secs, some 7 seconds ahead of legendary Olympian, Tommy Hughes, who seems to be on a resurgence himself. Well done David on another superb performance.

ParkRuns, Saturday 18th May

As the late spring sunshine persisted, members of North Belfast Harriers turned out in force, at many a course locally and further afield, to partake in the camaraderie, craic and convivial collective engagement, that are at the core of every Saturday ParkRun.

Worth a special mention this week are Brandon McMinn and Ian Keys, who were both second finishers, with Ian also recording a new PB. Well done to April Clarke and Natasha Henderson, who were both first female finishers on their courses. Also well done to Leila Jones, who was a third female finisher. Also, congratulations to Alina Biskupska, Matthew McNutt, Angela Robinson, Erin Beattie, Nola Rafferty and Eadaoin Kelly, who all recorded a new PB on their respective courses.

Well done to all those who participated, the runners and especially the volunteers, without whom the events could not be staged.
