The parents may be distracted by the festive shenanigans – don’t worry, I am pretty sure Rudolph and Co. will deliver on time next Monday, unlike this report – but the NBH Juniors remained focused on delivering yet more excellent and committed times at the Water Works park runs over the weekend.
With an otherwise quiet week – although training continued, albeit with several juniors constrained to their desks revising for the dreaded end of year exams – the wet weekend saw some 10 NBH juniors out running in the blustery rain. And despite the conditions – and a warning from the race coordinator at the junior run to take it steady because of the weather – there were 2 superb weekend PBS, with Thomas Coy ignoring the warning on Sunday to achieve his, and his sister, Eimar Coy, registering hers on the longer Saturday run. Well done to the Coys !! (and as a Spurs fan I am very happy to print that !)
Also on Saturday Eimar O’Regan put on a strong run to finish 1st for the ladies and Oscar Purvis registered yet another sub 19 minute to cross the line in 3rd place. Well done to you both.
It was also great to see Eimar running with her younger brothers Ronan and Cillian to encourage them to complete the 2km on Sunday – potential future NBH juniors ! Sadly Leila Jones did not extend this spirit to her novice siblings in the race, but the consolation was a NBH one two at the finish !
Today sees the last training session at Girls Model before the festive break, and then training restarts on Tuesday 9th January 2024, when the coaches will be preparing many of the juniors for the school XC events and they themselves will be working off the excess calorie intake……
One last mention – I believe Cassie Curran now has the stiches out from the cut on her foot incurred at the Navan All Ireland race and we all look forward to seeing her running again in the New Year.
Finally, both the 5km and 2km Park Runs will take place as normal this weekend, plus there is the added bonus (!) of a 5km Park Run on Christmas Day – no doubt some of the hardier NBH Juniors will be dragging their parents along !!
