NBH Race Report 13-19 February 2023

Cross country, road, trail and indoor all offered racing opportunities this week and the harriers took full advantage.

Born2run Run Forest Run Castlewellan (Sat 18th Feb)

This was the final race in this year’s Run Forest Run Series, offering competitors a 5k or 10k option. Conditions were good for racing, with the course involving a mixture of road and trail and incorporating a loop of Castlewellan lake. Gladys Ganiel was the first home of the six harriers who toed the line in the 10k, claiming a win in the ladies race and a fine 6th place overall. Full results were:

Ras na hÉireann Cross Country Race (Sat 18th Feb)

Joe Gallagher was the sole representative of North Belfast Harriers to take part in the Ras na hÉireann Cross Country Race on Sunday 19th February. Joe finished the 6 km course in 27:28, placing 39th overall and 4th in the M55 category.

Organised by Dunleer Athletics Club, the race was staged on the outskirts of Dunleer town, in Co Louth, a change of venue from previous years, when the race was staged at Oldbridge, on the site of the Boyne battlefield. The conditions were good underfoot. However all runners were challenged by a long climb at the back of the course, that had to be encountered four times.

Irish National Senior Indoor Championship, Abbotstown, 18/19 Feb

Senior Women 60m Sprint: Caitlin Maguire took 3rd place in her heat in 7.77s to qualify for the final as a fastest loser. In the final she shaved a few hundreths off, running 7.72s to claim 7th place overall.

Senior Men 1500m: Fionntan Campbell achieved a new PB of 4:02.33 in his heat, narrowly missing out on a place in the final.

Senior Men 800m: Conor Curran also achieved a new PB, running 2:03.78 in his heat.
